I love this! I've been wanting to make ties for my little guys for quite some time now but have never found a method I liked. I LOVE this method, can't wait to sew up a few dozen or so!!

Thank you!! My daughter just came home from a trip to Justice (how I hate that store!) with my mother, with a shirt that had a black necktie accessory. She thinks it's the most awesome thing ever. I saw it and thought that I needed to sew up a couple more for her, and maybe sock some away in my birthday gift stash.
I've linked to your tutorial over at Craft Gossip:
http://

This is very cool, and I have 5 great-nephews that would look mighty fine in some cute little ties 😀 I've never heard of buttonhole elastic before – I called my local fabric store (Fabricland in Canada) and they carry it, so I'll be able to make some Christmas ties for the boys – FUN! Thanks Shauna for posting this, and thanks Anne Weaver ^^^ for
linking to it 😀

Oh, thank you for this wonderful tutorial! I've been meaning to make my 2-year old some more ties, but having made one using a pattern that took WAAAAAAAYYYYYY too long, I've been apprehensive about doing more. This method is so much better! Bless you for your generosity in sharing this!!

Can you give a little more guidance about how you did the back lining fabric (the yellow one in the picture)? Is that just the second piece that you were referring (in the "right sides together" part)?

This is brilliant! Thank you! Now the trick will be getting my four year old to wear the tie…!

What measurement do you use for the buttonhole elastic?
The charts I’m looking at say that the neck measurement for 5 or 6 yr olds is 3 1/2 “………goodness…..that seems like it would choke the child.

    Thanks for replying.

Such a cute idea! I will definitely make a tie for my son, he will love it 🙂 A safety tip: if you use snap buttons instead of regular, the tie will come loose if by som unlucky incident he’d get stuck.
