I LOVE this. I love rompers but also hate the in between potty stage. I’m currently training mine. It is such a cute piece though, I wonder if we could flip it around so the zipper is in the front so she could take it off herself. Anyways, it’s super cute and I want to make one right now. Thanks for the freebie!

I think you could totally turn it around. My kids are the type that need simple elastic waist pants while potty training or they struggle 🙂 If you cut the back A on a fold, and the front A not on the fold then you could easily add the zipper to the front instead of back.

Okay ,this is making me wish I had a toddler again. Or at least a friend who has a toddler so I could sew up a stack of these. This is SO cute! I’ve got a Craft Gossip post scheduled for tomorrow morning that links to your free pattern:

That is so adorable! My daughter is already potty trained, but I think I will enlarge the bodice a bit, and use it for a dress.
    Thanks for sharing!

Hey, could you tell me on what size I can print them out?

    I am in doubt.

    Thank you

    1. Shauna

      Print the pattern at 100%
The pattern is for a 12-18m size.

Thank you so much for the pattern. I’m actually a bit intimidated with sewing knits, so…until I conquer that fear…can I use a different fabric for the bottom half without adjusting the pattern? Thanks again! Jessica

Thanks so much for this pattern. It is super cute. I’m a bit intimidated by knits, and happen to have a thin corduroy I’ve been saving. Can I use the pattern as is for a non-knit bottom half? Do I need to adjust it some for the lack in stretch? Thanks so much for your help!

I flipped this pattern for this months “flip the pattern”. I love how it turned out, thank you very much!

Love this look! Could linen be used for the top? And any suggestions for something other than french terry on the bottom to dress it up a little bit more?

I just finished this play suit and LOVE the way it looks on my 16 month old. I really struggled with the bottom of the zipper (sewing from the zipper stopper to the crotch). Do you have any suggestions? I want to make more since the first one turned out so cute!

    1. Shauna

When I sew that seam I, sew as close to the zipper as I can and then down to the crotch. Then I open the seam flat after and often sew a tack bar (back and forth stitch) over the bottom of the seam right over the zipper to keep the seam closed, and everything laying smooth. Careful when sewing over a zipper though so you don’t break a needle. I hope that helps!

I think you skipped the part of the tutorial where we sew the back top to the back bottom (before the zipper). It’s clear enough, though, to get an idea of what we need to do; thank you so much for an adorable pattern.

  15. Adriana

I didn’t skip the part of sewing the back top to the back bottom. Have you made one of these play suits Jennifer? I was asking Shauna- the one who made the tutorial the question.

  16. Adriana

Shauna- thank you so much for the pattern and tutorial. I really appreciate you posting this.

This pattern is adorable! I have a little girl on the way will love to make this for her. For some reason the pdf link is not working for me. I was wondering if you could email it to me. Thank you for the free pattern!

I’d love to make this for my granddaughter, but I think I’d want to add snaps all the way up the inner legs for ease in diaper changing. How much do I need to add to the width of the legs and to the crotch to be able to do this?
Also, I think it would be cute as a short romper for summer.
Thanks for the pattern and tutorial.

can’t seem to find anywhere if it says seam allowances are included in this pattern or not. iF they are included, what size seam allowance? thanx for the pattern super cute.

  20. Eloise Conklin

Perhaps I’ve missed that seam allowance. Is it 3/8 or 5/8?

    Hi Shauna!

I was wondering if there was this pattern for like tween sized girls. I’m going to a wedding and am quite worried about the pre-wedding party.

    Thanks!

    1. Shauna

Sorry I am not sure of a pattern like this that goes up to tween sizing.

  23. Ashley

I love this so much it makes me want to attempt a zipper for the first time ty!

  24. lyndateacher

I loved this pattern even tough I don’t have a sewing machine, this was my first hand-made project. Thanks for sharing. I can’t wait to do some more!!!

  25. Eileen Dyett

I love this pattern. I will resize it for my granddaughter who is between a 3 and 4T, although she is not yet 2 yrs. (tall parents…) Thank you for sharing your creativity so generously.

  26. Erin KG

Just finished making the playsuit for my little girl aiming for summer wearing, but have tried it on her at 7.5 months and the shoulder to crotch is just about perfect fit. She’s just going into 0 sizing for bodysuits etc, so her torso is long rather than her legs. Any suggestions on adjusting pattern to fit this? I assumed 3/8 seam allowance as it wasn’t stated anywhere. Love the design!

  27. kellyzs

Could this pattern be made with polycotton? Many thanks

  28. Megan Rosser

Hi there! I’m pretty new to sewing and I’m having a difficult time understanding the pattern instructions. Have you, or do you know if someone else has done a tutorial on your pattern?

  29. miranda Carrie cunningham

ok. same pattern ….bigger size please. my daughter is 3 going into 4t. this is so cute. plus as everyone mentioned a bigger size would be less of a potty training issue. please?
