Looking for new wall art ideas? This is a very easy a fun way for making a picture become your art decor.
What you will need:
Picture (will describe in step one)
Scissors
ruler
pencil
card stock paper ( all one color or multi)
frame
poster board
double sided tape
Permanent Marker (what I used) you can also use paint, oil crayons, colored pencils, charcoal or anything else to make it different.
STEP ONE: Finding a picture. I had in mind the picture I was going for so I went online and searched for black and white trees and found the one above. When you find the picture you will want to use make sure the length and height are even inches (ex. 4×6, 5×7). If needed crop your picture. How large or small the picture is will be up to you, the larger the more squares and work you will have. Also find a frame before hand that will fit your photo so you don’t end up with your art and not a frame to fit it. * Finished picture will be 4x larger*
STEP TWO: Flip your picture over and using your ruler and pencil draw squares 1 in x 1 in. Mine was a 4×6 picture so I ended up with 24 squares. Number your squares starting from top right (see above), once flipped over they will be in the correct order.
STEP THREE: Cut out squares.
STEP FOUR: Measuring and cutting card stock. Measure 4 in x 4 in squares and cut out. However many squares your picture as will be how many card stock squares to cut. Since I was using different colored card stock I placed the squares out in the color order that I wanted and numbered the back to go with my picture numbers.

STEP FIVE: Starting at either your first or last square take one card stock square and using a pencil draw out the picture on the square onto the card stock. Color in with permanent marker.
Once you move on to the square next to it, place the squares together to make sure the markings add up (see photo above). Continue on all squares.
STEP SIX: Taking your poster board and ruler, measure and mark the center of the board. From that center point measure and mark 1/8 in from the top, bottom and sides.

STEP SIX: Taking your poster board and ruler, measure and mark the center of the board. From that center point measure and mark 1/8 in from the top, bottom and sides.
STEP SEVEN: Take the center squares of your card stock picture. ( Mine were 10, 11, 14, 15)
Apply double sided tape to back, place first square down on board on the 1/8 in marks. Use ruler to make sure the picture is straight. (See above picture)
STEP EIGHT: Apply the other three squares the same way. ( See picture above) Once placed they should all be 1/4 in away from each other on all sides. Continue with rest of squares measuring 1/4 in between them. Erase any pencil marks.
STEP NINE: Measure and trim off any excess poster board and your picture is ready to be framed! Now you have a work of art, just make sure you sign it 🙂

This is an awesome project! I've been trying to find something to hang on the wall above our couch and this is definitely in the running for ideas. Maybe I'll have to look around for a picture that would work and do this project myself.

Thanks for the great tutorial!

How pretty! It makes the art so much more interesting to have it tiled rather than just flat in one piece. Great work!
