This month for #itssewshwin (November 2016) the patterns of the month are the new B Side Patterns. They are our first tween and teen patterns, and they are 50% off this month only with the code BSIDE. Share your creations in our Facebook group for a chance to win a $50 gift card to the fabric shop of your choice. So this month I made a few more things from the new B Side Patterns. The first is a pair of the Starr Joggers from the boys collection.
While Jude is a big fan of the joggers already, Abbey wanted a pair of her own to wear to dance class. I decided to slim the legs a little so they had a slightly more legging like feel, especially since I was using a knit to make them. We both love the way they turned out.
Slimming the legs on any pattern is really easy, I start just below the hip and draw a new line blending down to a slimmer ankle. A couple notes on doing this, if you are making it from a woven fabric be careful about slimming the ankle too much so the foot won’t fit through, knits stretch so I knew I could slim it down and she would still be able to get them on and off. We ended up taking about 1/2″ off from both sides of the ankle (or 2″ total) it was perfect for what we wanted.
The knit is a french terry from noni bee and I just love it. I made Penny a sweatshirt from it as well. (seems to be sold out at the moment but hopefully she will get more soon) The french terry is soft and the print is so great! My girls just love it.
Other notes on the pants, instead of elastic in the cuffs at the ankles I cut it from rib knit, sewn the same as the pattern just skipping the elastic. Also we skipped the draw string waist and I lengthened the elastic at the waist because Abbey is picky and she likes things to feel loose. So the elastic is basically the same width as the waistband but it helps the waistband from becoming stretched out. We also skipped the back pocket but she loves the front pockets.
Most importantly she can really move in the pants and she love that.
