I love this design, and I'm going to make these for my neighbor's boy! What's the seam allowance?

  8. spencersgrl

My shoes keep coming out horribly. How far back am I supposed to pin the buckle piece to the sole? Also, do I curl it under so that I do not stitch it when I'm stitching the toe part.

  9. You. Me. And These Three.

These are adorable. I have tried to make them a few times now and I am in the same boat as spencergrl. They have come out horribly each time. I would be so grateful for a more in depth tutorial, and better photos on how to assemble the pieces before sewing them together.

Thank you for sharing. Maybe it is super clear for most people, but I tried and just couldn't make it work. It was like looking at those "trick" pictures in children's books: I thought I had it, got all the pieces down and in what I thought was the right position, then squinted and somehow it just didn't make sense. I either had too much fabric bunching up or not enough to

Thank you very much for this pattern! I made a pair of some fleece on the inside. I am really happy with the result although it was quite hard to sew because it is so small. I just sewed a flower-ribbon across the flap.
My picture: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y94/littlethings/sew/IMG_3561_zpsf25b0212.jpg

Same trouble as others not being able to get it to look right.
Please more clarity on how to place buckle in right spot. I've unstitched and re stitched so many times now that I have to chuck out this pair

when I make shoes I have no official "seam allowance", just as close to edge as possible catching all layers! The only thing I was confused about with this tutorial was the use of the term "buckle"… I'm not a pro, but no novice either – but aren't buckles little shiny metal things that help keep your belt on or your sandals strapped? Am I missing something??

    1. Shauna@shwinandshwin

Yes I sew as close to the edge as possible, being sure to sew through all the layers. These are baby shoes so they are very small and there isn't room for a large seam allowance to be on the inside. Buckles don't have to be shiny little metal pieces, that is the term I used for the part of the shoe that is the strap that goes over the foot and secures the shoe in place, if you don't

  25. hd458

For seam allowance, I stitch as close to the edge as possible while catching all layers, is that right? But I was wondering what these look like w/ the flap open – b/c there is no obvious "center point" on the tops to match up with "center points" on the sole. Rather than waste a bunch of trial-&-error shoes, I was hoping to see what it should look like at every view…

    1. Shauna@shwinandshwin

If you don't want to waste fabric with trial and error and don't feel comfortable sewing from this FREE pattern then I suggest finding a pattern for sale. Being that this post is over 3 years old I don't really plan to add new pictures or details it is what it is (and that would be free)

  26. hd458

Also – what do you mean by "buckle"? I'm not a pro, but no novice either & I thought buckles were metal things that were on belts…

  27. leann mcconathy

I had problems sewing the top to the sole and the shoe turning out correctly. After several attempts, this is what I came up with. I started sewing the outside top layer to the sole at mid toe. As I came around close to the buckle, I tucked the buckle inside the shoe. I placed the bottom part of the buckle next to the sole, and then placed the toe material on top. I sewed three layers for a short distance. Turned it inside out and it came out perfect. Maybe this can help someone. These shoes are so cute.

  28. Livia H

Very cute! Totally going to try these!

  29. Janna

I really want to make them, but I’m just not understanding the part where you put the all together. Please make a video tutorial!

  30. Jennifer

Please, could you tell me if your patterns already has some seam allowance or I have to left some before cutting? I love all your shoes♥ Thanks!!

  31. Mercedia

What part is the front of the pattern for the top of the shoe and where do I start attaching the bottom to the top from?

I’m not sure if I worded that in a way you can understand but your directions don’t really tell me anything about placement and there are no pictures showing that part either. I am sorry to annoy you about a free pattern.
