We are wrapping up #itsewshwin for April. (still time for you to sew up an Anytime At All Tee and show it off in the group) For my last one this month I made it into a cardigan. My sweet little 2 month old nephew was being blessed at church and my SIL wanted a white cardigan to wear over a bow tie onesie. Only problem, I didn’t have a pattern for a baby sized cardigan. So I decided to use the Anytime At All Tee pattern.
It was a quick and easy hack to make it into a simple cardigan and the pattern includes a 3m size which was perfect for a little baby cardigan.
To make the cardigan I cut the back of the tee regular. For the front instead of cutting it out on the fold I cut 2 making the front just a touch wider and adding an angle to the front neckline.
With the front and back sewn together at the shoulders, measure the front edges and all around the neckline. Subtract 2 inches and cut a strip that length and 3 inches wide.
Sew right side to the wrong side of the neckline, stretch the band to fit along the edge.
Then fold the band over the the front and fold the raw edge under. Match up the folded edge with the stitch line and then sew along the fold line. (sewn much like a bias binding) To finish off the cardigan I added the sleeves and cuffs from the pattern, and then I added a band along the bottom just like the neck ribbing. Lastly I added buttons and button holes down the front. Simple and quick.
I loved the way it turned out so much I can’t wait to make some more!
