Did you guys know that March is national craft month? I teamed up with Joann Fabric and Crafts to help share a spring trend craft. Joann makes crafting easy, they not only have great selection of nearly every crafting supply you could need but they also have a great coupon to be used during National Craft Month. You can get $5 off a $25 or more purchase. Find the coupon HERE.

For my craft I went all nautical, because I love all things nautical anyway. I made a sequin anchor shirt.
I used the Day Tripper Pattern which is part of the Just Add Jeans Collection from Pattern Anthology. Instead of using a knit fabric I used a blue and white striped cotton from Joann, and added a sequin anchor using sequin trim from Joann.
- Shirt (make your own or use one you already own)
- Sequin Trim
- Anchor Clipart printed out (I found mine HERE)
- Scissors
- Fray Check
- Sewing machine
All supplies can be found at Joann Fabric and Crafts
Cut out the anchor (or any other shape you so desire)
Trace around the shape. I used a pen since the sequins will cover the line anyway.
Then lay the sequin trim out along the outline, so you can determine how much you need.
I left a few extra inches incase anything changed or shifted while sewing.
Cut the end and pull off a few sequins then add fray check or glue to secure the end.
Then sew down the middle of the sequins with a long stitch length and a thread that will blend in. You will be basically stitching from sequin to sequin and you want to try and sew in the hole. Just follow the line.
That’s it for a simple and quick change up. I love the look of the anchor on the Day Tripper Top, which works great in a woven fabric (like shown here) I just left off the neck and waist bands and turned the edges under and hemmed. I made this one in the shortest length from the pattern and instead of adding the sleeve bands I just hemmed the sleeve edge as well.

Hi, I was wondering if you used a special needle in your machine with your sequins and what kind of sewing machine did you use to do this? I have a Baby Lock Melody and I broke two needles trying to sew on my sequins. I then ordered a sequin foot but I don't want to zigzag over my sequins. Do you just go really slowly to make sure you go in the hole through each one? I designed my shirt with

I just used a regular needle, I did sew slowly so I could get in the hole of the sequin whenever possible but the needle did sew right through the sequin, I just lengthened my stitch length.

Hi I was wondering if you sized up in woven fabric to keep the loose feel or if you just used the same size as you would with knit fabric. I just made my first day tripper shirt in a knit fabric and loved it!

I didn't size up for this one, but I made a longer one for my sister (shown in the listing for the pattern) and for that one I used a woven and sized up. I would just go off the measurements for the sizing to decide if you should size up or not but I would also make sure that you use a fabric with some nice drape and not to heavy so it lays well. Hope that helps!
