Abbey requested a new maxi dress for winter. She likes them since she can wear pants under and it keeps her extra warm. Also maxi dresses are super comfortable and so who wouldn’t want one in the winter. Since the Mona Dress pattern is one of her favorite dresses we decided to go with that.
For this one, in addition to adding length to make it a maxi dress we also added elastic at the waistline. You could totally skip this but since the Mona is a loose fitting dress as is we thought the maxi length would make it seem extra loose. I added a casing and elastic to the waist following the Kaleidoscope maxi dress pattern. We liked how it just cinched in the waist just enough.
To make the pattern a maxi length I simply added length to the skirt piece. I determined how long we wanted it and then added the amount needed to the skirt length.
Everything else was just sewn as is. She loved her new dress and has already worn it 3 times including for her holiday piano recital. I started to wonder if I could just call this her Christmas dress for the season, ha ha!
