I can’t believe the day is almost here! The final projects post tomorrow and I am so excited to share what the designers have been working on!
I thought it would be fun to get a little up close and personal with our final three contestants.
It has been the most fun part of hosting the whole competition getting to know each of the ladies that have taken their time and talent to share some stunning looks with us. I put together a little final survey for the final three to take a break from sewing up a storm and have a little fun getting up close and personal with us.
So let’s learn some fun facts:

Q: when did you first start sewing?
A: I began sewing in 2003. I was pregnant with my first daughter and wanted to make her stuff. I was probably just suffering from a extreme case of nesting along with my father’s tendancy to be “frugal”. In any case, it was very short lived and I did not make anything more challenging than a pillowcase until 2008.
Q: What is one sewing tool you can not live without?
A: I would say, hands down a seam ripper. Not the little one that comes with your machine either, a serious heavy duty one, both for mistakes, as well as taking apart other garments to create a pattern or up-cycle.
Q: What inspires you the most?
A: I am inspired by several great designers. I always look for inspiration from various shows whether it be Paris, Milan, or Mercedes Benz Fashion week. I was a huge fan of the late Alexander McQueen, and Versace. I like to adapt their avante garde pieces into wearable everyday clothing for my high fashion toddlers.
Q: What was your favorite challenge/design from Project Toddler Runway? A: It would have to be from the hair piece challenge as well. I just adored the little leggings, and the linen top.
Q: Which design from another designer was your favorite?
A: I loved the Garden Party ensemble for the hair piece challenge. It is definitely on my to do list when we are done with this crazy ride! I think the pictures did not go it justice, you could not really make out the tulle she had overlaid on each layer of the skirt!
Q: If your life were a TV sitcom what sitcom would it most be like, and why?
A: I honestly do not get to watch very much tv. But if I had to name one, my husband and I always get a huge laugh out of King of Queens, their fun relationship is very similar to ours, there is never a dull moment in our house! I am definitely the bossy one and he is the carefree one.
Q: If you could have one super power ability what would it be and why?
A: I would love to have power over time. If it was to speed up time through the dull moments, or to slow it down when I have a lot of things to finish with very little time. I think that it would be the most useful to me

Q: When did you first start sewing?
A: I started sewing around the beginning of 2008 on my Mother-in-law’s old Bernina and with a copy of Diana Rupp’s Sew Everything Workshop at my side. Then, that May, my husband got me my own sewing machine for my birthday and I sewed diligently until the morning sickness set in that October (and my sewing room turned into a nursery). Once we bought our first house (Nov 09) and were moved in I had some space for sewing and the fabric hoarding and creating hasn’t stopped since.
Q: What is one sewing tool you cannot live without?
A: My Gingher scissors – I’m not sure if it’s because they are the first sewing related item I bought for myself (read: security blanket) or if it’s because they are just plain awesome. Either way if I am planning to do any sewing or fabric manipulating I don’t leave home without them.
Q: What inspires you the most?
A: Okay, tough question! If we’re talking design here I think I am most inspired by authenticity. What would someone wear if they weren’t trying to fit into a trend or impress the masses? What’s comfortable and practical but still packs a punch in the individual style arena? That’s my idea of a great piece of clothing. Hopefully one day I’ll get brave enough to design something “adult sized” with these things in mind. Also, if you’re wondering what inspires me generally in life – it’d definitely be the infinite possibilities.
Q: What was your favorite challenge/design from Project Toddler Runway?
A: I loved the Flower in Your Hair challenge because when your inspiration is something like a hair bow you really begin to think outside of other clothing pieces you’ve seen and let your creativity take over. My Garden Party ensemble from that challenge is actually my favorite for this reason.
Q: Which design from another designer was your favorite?
A: And wow, it’s extremely hard to pick one overall favorite design from one of the other ladies – I have loved so many and am stacking up the tutorials on my “to make” list. After some heated deliberation with myself I’m going to go with April’s Sweet Grace dress as my overall favorite. I love how original it was and the idea of the removable feather skirt was fabulous! I also think it’s great that she stepped out of her comfort zone when designing it.
Q: If your life were a TV sitcom what sitcom would it most be like, and why?
A: Here’s the truth… I only watch three shows religiously and I normally watch them on the PC after they’ve aired. They are: Glee, Biggest Loser, and Project Runway (shocker I know). I’ve never been a big TV watcher and I’d be really reaching to give you anything here. So I did what any resourceful gal would do and asked some of my best friends. The two that answered both said “Bewitched” — one sent me the Wikipedia description to which I was left to my own devices and gathered that Bewitched is like my life because my craftiness sometimes wreaks havoc on my husband’s life 😉 But the other friend clarified to me by sending this: I would say Bewitched because she kept her house together and had other worldly skills (i.e. raising a family, being a good wife, keeping up with your other job and responsibilities- hers were witchcraft and the magical world), and she managed to do it all with a sense of style and grace. Yep that’s why they are my best friends. Nice huh?
Q: If you could have one super power ability what would it be and why?
A: At first I was going to say flying so I could get everywhere faster. But then I realized if there’s a super power that would allow me to teleport to my destinations (with toddler in tow if need be) then that would be the one I would want. I hate time in a car unless I’m solo with the radio blaring and have nothing else to do or anywhere to be.

Q: When did you first start sewing?
A: I started sewing when I was 8 years old. My mother would give me and my sister our own special bucket of scrap fabric. I remember using mine to make blankets and clothes for my dolls.
Q: What is one sewing tool you cannot live without?
A: Besides my sewing machine, I couldn’t imagine sewing without a seam ripper!! Sometimes I get an idea and I just go to town, but it doesn’t always turn out. That’s when I take out the seam ripper and start over. It’s very handy as I go through my creative process.
Q: What inspires you the most?
A: My family is my greatest inspiration. As I watch my girls, I think of what it is to be a child and it often sparks visions of them playing and then ideas begin to form. My husband has taught me I can do anything! Aside from family, other things that inspire me are color, an imagined photo shoot, and all those wonderful blog s out there!
Q: What was your favorite challenge/design from Project Toddler Runway?
A: I’ve loved all the projects because I was challenged and learned something on each one. My favorite was the denim dress because it was so fun to see my daughter loving it. She just kept spinning around and she wanted to wear it the rest of the day!
Q: Which design from another designer was your favorite?
A: It’s tough to choose just one of the many fabulous outfits that others have done, but one that I loved loved loved, was from week 2 made by Jenn @ A Jennuine Life. The green ruffle dress was adorable!
Q: If your life were a TV sitcom what sitcom would it most be like, and why?
A: To be honest I don’t watch much tv, there’s just not enough time in the day to do it. My husband is the tv watcher in our family and he said my life would be like I Love Lucy. He said that Lucy is always trying new things and there is a never a dull moment in their house. He also said that if I were Lucy then that makes him Ricky and he is my sexy Latin heartthrob. That sounds like my life.
Q: If you could have one super power ability what would it be and why?
A: If I could have a super power it would be to manipulate time so I would be able to have more time to do all the things that need to be done and then still have time to play!
